: character information :
Age: 19
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Unexplored; hasn’t really put much thought into it or felt the need to.
Personality: Matthew is courteous to everyone he meets, but is a passive-aggressive and sarcastic person at heart. At least in his mind he is, as he doesn’t really have the guts to stand up to anyone more intimidating than him. Regardless, he prefers to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and has a tendency to act as a peacekeeper during conflict.
History: Matthew comes from a mid-sized town, growing up with his older brother of two years. Said brother eventually left home when Matthew was 15, claiming that the smell of adventure called and maybe it was time to try his luck at finding his fortune. Matthew never felt that same compulsion, so he remained in his hometown, working at the town hall as a scribe. He passed his days living with his dog and buying “magic potions” from the local shady guy on the corner on weekends.
Brief Summary of their old world:
RP Sample:
“M-Maple,” Matthew squeaked. He’d woken up to find that things were not as they had been when he had fallen asleep. He didn’t even remember falling asleep. Now, alone and confused, he stared down the face of a very large and unhappy-looking bear. Gulping, he slowly began to try to edge back, not breaking eye contact in fear of setting the creature off. “Heh-heh, nice bear…good bear…” he mumbled mostly to himself. “Just stay right there…”
The blonde started to relax a little as he got further away without the bear moving, feeling less pressured without the hot and smelly breath blowing over him. A spark of hope that he would walk away from this encounter unscathed flickered in his mind. That is, up until the hand he was dragging himself backwards with happened to land on a twig, and before he realized it his weight was already on it and it snapped with a loud echo around the woodsy area. Matthew froze, and everything seemed to go deathly quiet.
Not a second later, a red blur tore through the forest, giant bear following not too far afterwards.
“I-It’s official!” the young man panted as he ran for his life. “I’m not taking any more of those funny potions from the guy smoking on the corner!”
He paused briefly to leap over a log; it took all his willpower not to look back when he heard the crunch of the bear smashing into the log and turning it to splinters as it continued to chase him.
“Even if the price is really good and the after effects are beyond mind-blowing at the time!”
Sadly, he knew regardless of his complaints, he’d be going back to the strange man with the pet bunny at a much later date for some of those “magic potions”. Later as he sat in a tree he had scrambled into as an escape attempt, he sighed.
“Maybe I need to get out of the city, and actually go somewhere. My brother always did tell me I could use some new excitement in my life,” he murmured, pretending that the bear wasn’t stalking around the bottom of the tree in wait. He also decided not to think about the fact he hadn’t seen said brother in god-knows how long and possibly went missing after leaving to seek his fortune. Hours passed by, with Matthew losing himself in his thoughts and paying the bear below no mind; he was used to doing nothing for long periods of time. After all, he’d once wasted an entire weekend on staring at his pet dog’s whiskers.
Eventually the large beast got tired of waiting and sauntered off, letting out an annoyed huff. Matthew still waited about half-an-hour before climbing back down.
“Well, time to head back home. Kuma’s probably wondering where I’ve gone off to and why he hasn’t been fed yet, puttering around the house like the lazy dog he is,” he said as he dusted himself off. With that in mind, the blonde headed towards home. “Come to think of it, I don’t think I recognized that species of bear…oh well, probably wandered up from the south.”
This wasn’t an uncommon occurrence, but the idea didn’t sound right to him for some reason. He shook it off as nothing; panic changes one’s perspective of things. Like the fact the wood didn’t seem too familiar was just the adrenaline pumping through his veins. Regardless, he found his way through and into town.
And that’s when he realized that it wasn’t the town he called home.
